Pendant plus de trente ans, Leo Panitch a joué un rôle central dans l’intellectualité de gauche canadienne, en tant que professeur à l’Université York où il a formé plusieurs générations au marxisme créatif et à l’économie politique, et aussi en tant rédacteur/coordonnateur du Socialist Register, une revue annuelle très importante dans le paysage progressiste anglo-américain et mondial. Parallèlement, Leo a mené une recherche riche et foisonnante sur le capitalisme et l’impérialisme nord-américain, ce qu’il a amené à la production de plusieurs ouvrages remarquables (dont The Socialist Challenge Today avec Sam Gindin et The Making of Global Capitalism: The Political Economy of American Empire). Militant infatigable de la gauche canadienne (Socialist Project), Leo a développé des interactions étroites avec chercheurs et militants de plusieurs pays (Angleterre, États-Unis, Grèce, Québec), contribuant à tisser la toile du renouvellement du matérialisme historique et des approches critiques à l’échelle internationale.

For over thirty years, Leo Panitch played a central role in the intellectualism of the Canadian left, as a professor of York University where he taught a creative Marxism and political economy to several generations, and also as an editor/coordinator for Socialist Register, a very important journal in the progressive Anglo-American and worldwide landscape. Concomitantly, Leo undertook rich and burgeoning research on capitalism and North American imperialism, which led him to producing many remarkable works (namely The Socialist Challenge Today with Sam Gindin and The Making of Global Capitalism: The Political Economy of American Empire). Tireless militant of the Canadian left (Socialist Project), Leo developed close interactions with researchers and activists in many countries (England, the United States, Greece, Québec), contributing to a renewal of historical materialism and critical approaches on an international scale.
